My husband prefers 2% milk, but I have a 2-year old at home who loves to drink milk and with prices going up, it’s tough to justify buying 2 different concentrations regular. Is it okay for her to switch to 2% milk?

Absolutely!

The AAP recommends switching to low-fat milk after 2 years of age as there is a reduced amount of calories and saturated fats in this low-fat option without skimping on the protein content. The recommended daily intake of milk is 2-2.5 cups per day.

Cow’s milk is an excellent source of protein for growing bodies and helps with bone mineralization and development.  Plant milk alternatives do not contain as many vitamins, minerals, and proteins as cow’s milk does and many of them have additional sugars and artificial sweeteners. It is strongly recommended to stick to cow’s milk so long as your child is not allergic.
