There is nothing I love more than enjoying a hot steaming cup of coffee in the mornings when the house is still quiet.

I relish in that moment as long as I can until the first sound of footsteps comes thumping across the floor and I know I have to spring into action. I almost never have an opportunity to enjoy a full hot cup of coffee. Last year, we were given an insulated mug and it made all the difference. I went from reheating my coffee 2-3 times a morning to enjoying a nice warm cup throughout the breakfast and voyage to school process. Because there are so many on the market now, I’m testing out my favorites to see which ones work the best! I hope this experiment helps you have more relaxing mornings and enjoy your cup of joe a little more!

Xo,

Lizzie

My experiment:

  • I poured hot coffee into all insulated mugs at the same time. They all had a reading of 185 degrees when they were poured into the mugs.
  • I then sealed each mug with the top included upon purchase
  • I tested the temperatures at the exact same time 15, 30 and 60 minutes later and then replaced the lids.

Below are the findings of our test:

Top Performing Mug: Yeti Rambler 10 oz Stackable Mug ($25)

This mug blew away all the others! It only dropped 4 degrees within 15 minutes and 14 degrees after 30 minutes, after an hour it was still completely drinkable and hot at 159 degrees! This also is cheaper than some of the alternatives and comes in adorable colors! This is TOTALLY worth it, moms!

1st Runner Up: Corkcicle Paper Rifle Co. 16 oz mug ($42)

This mug performed great! It stayed almost as hot as the yeti mug, dropping 7 degrees after 15 minutes, 15 degrees after 30 minutes and only 28 degrees after an hour. It still measured 157 hot degrees after an hour, making this another favorite. This one is quite a bit more expensive than the yeti, but it comes in nice patterns and colors!

2nd Runner Up: Hydroflask Stainless Steel Coffee and Tea Mug ($28)

The Hydroflask definitely performed well in our test, dropping 9 degrees during the first 15 minutes and finishing at a toasty 155 degrees after an hour. This is another great option for moms.

A few other mugs passed our test. Read below for our reviews on those!

The Ember Mug with Base

We tried out the popular Ember mug, which as a base to keep the cup warm! There are a few differences with this mug, as it has no lid and must sit on the base to stay warm, but it comes with an amazing app, that allows you to set your preferred beverage temperature and during our tests, the coffee stayed within a degree of our setting for the entirety of the test. While this is an awesome feature, we feel this is best for moms who work at a desk and will keep their coffee on the base, since your coffee will cool rapidly when not with its base.

The Brumate Mug

This adorably bright Brumate was also on the list, and it was our only tumbler option put to the test. While it did not hold temperature as well as our other mugs, it still kept beverages warm and enjoyable to drink. This is a great option for moms who want to take their coffee in the car!

We do not recommend purchasing our last two mugs.

They simply did not hold temperature nearly as well as the other two mugs and are likely not worth a buy.

Swell Pink Topaz Mug

Amenice Green Insulated Mug (if used without the charger)

This also has a charging base like the Ember, but it is not as tech-forward as the Ember. If used without the warming base, the coffee temperature will fall fast! If you’re able to park yourself and plug in the base, it will work to stay warm. We feel technology has just gotten much better than this, so it’s likely not worth the buy!
