If you’re like many moms since the onset of the pandemic, you’re probably working from home with your kids running around during the summer break.

While it can be great to be present with your kids during the day, staying productive in your job can be challenging, to say the least. It’s a tough task to juggle child entertainment with work obligations.

Luckily, there are solutions for tackling the summertime madness. With a little planning and preparation, you can get your work done and keep your kids busy over summer break.

Here are a a few of our favorite ways to keep your kids, and yourself, productive:

Look into summer camps.

One of the best things you can do for your work-from-home productivity is to send your kids to summer camp and sign them up for activities. This way, they’ll be out of the house and occupied for a few hours each day, so  you can focus on getting things done. There are many different types of camps available, so there’s sure to be one that your kids will enjoy and learn a lot from.

Check your local recreation centers and community boards for recommendations, requirements and availability.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to ask for help from your friends, family, or even your kids. If you have a close circle of family and trusted friends in the area, they can be a great resource for you on occasion. By asking for help, you can lighten your load and make things more manageable. Plus, it can be a great way to teach your kids about helping others and working together as a team.

Also, if you have friends with kids that are babysitting age, consider asking them to be a “Mommy’s Helper.” This is a good way for kids to gain some childcare experience with the safety of an adult at home.

Take breaks throughout the day to move your body and get some fresh air.

Busy mom finding time to exercise.

One of the best things you can do for your productivity and mental health is to take breaks throughout the day. Get up and move your body, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Go outside and get some fresh air, and if you can, schedule some time for exercise. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but even just 30 minutes a day can make a big difference in how you feel.

Take your kids along with you to get them out of the house, too. A quick walk around the neighborhood is a great way to reset and prepare for the next part of everyone’s day.

Use audiobooks for a quiet story time

We LOVE Audible because of the fun storytelling features for kids. If you’re in need of a little focus time, load up a children’s book and let them listen to their favorite stories or find something new. We know – no one wants a child on a device all day, but let’s be honest, a little educational quiet time is better than the noise that comes along with boredom sometimes!

Keep your home noise-free with fun activities

It is possible to keep your home somewhat noise-free with fun kids activities. Keep a few simple toys or games around that can occupy your kids while you make phone calls or join conference calls. Try to create a quiet space in your home where you can go when you need to focus on something. If you’re unable to step away because your kids are little, take them along with you, but invest in some noise canceling headphones.

Wrapping it up.

As moms, we know it can be tough to balance work and home life, especially when your office is your home. But with a little bit of organization and some creative solutions, you can stay sane and productive while making the summer work for you.
