My daughter frequently complains about her private parts being itchy and uncomfortable. Do bubble baths really cause an issue? Is there a natural remedy for this?

Moisture in the groin area can lead to fungal infections in both boys and girls which may cause itching, redness, and general discomfort. Keeping the area clean and dry after bathing is important. Removing leotards, bathing suits, and spandex as soon as activites are over, help to prevent a fungal breeding ground. Irritants like soaps with a fragrance, bath bombs, and certain bubble baths can irritate the skin and lead to a dermatitis. I always recommend hypoallergenic, fragrance-free products for the bath. We tend to see an increase in complaints of vaginal irritation when girls are newly potty trained as well because it can be tricky to ensure dryness after voiding. Reviewing the importance of wiping front to back and ensuring the area is dry before putting undies back on can make a huge difference.
