One of my least favorite things to do is listen to my kids scream at each other in the car.
When all the games of “I Spy” and Car Bingo are old and tired and you cannot bear to hear another Disney song blast through the speakers, give one of these Podcasts a try!
Podcasts are now easier to find than ever on streaming apps like Spotify, Apple, Audible, and Google Podcasts. My kids have really enjoyed listening to these, and I love knowing they are being entertained without being glued to a screen! Bonus? It works on listening comprehension, too!
Here are some of my favorite podcasts broken down by subject.
Science
Brains On! A Science Podcast For Kids
Brought to you by American Public Media, Brains On is an award-winning science podcast for kids. Each week, the hosts focus on answering a new question about the world. This is the perfect podcast for curious kids who seem to have so many questions about the way everything works! There are episodes about trash, animals, belly buttons and bugs. With over 200 episodes, you’re sure to find something you like!
Story Time
Little Stories for Tiny People: Anytime and bedtime stories for kids
I love this creative and well produced podcast called Little Stories Tiny People. The podcast features original audio stories perfect for winding down at bedtime or a long drive in the car! You can take a night off from reading and relax and snuggle with the kids while listening before bed or allow kids to listen on their own. This is the dream child of Rhea Pechter who writes, performs, and produces each episode herself. Each story has sound effects and music to go with it, which adds to the enjoyment.
Inspirational
This is a fantastic podcast for kids and adults! It teaches kids to think outside of the box and dream big! It helps children learn how to set goals and reach them. These are lessons that are not always taught in school! Give it a try!
Mystery
The Unexplainable Disappearance of Mars Patel
This one is for our Tween Listeners. This podcast is a mystery story performed by kids, for kids! It follows Mars Patel and his friends as they set out on an adventure to find two friends that are missing. The suspense will keep kids entertained for hours! I would say this is best for older kids, age 8+.
Music
This awesome podcast teaches kids about music through movement, rhythm play and a variety of music. The show is created by a music educator who has a fun way about him! It is very interactive and is a great way to teach kids about the fundamentals of music.
