Is wearing tampons ok for teens?

My daughter recently started her period, and she is begging me to use tampons. I grew up in a home where we always used pads as young girls. Are tampons a lot more sanitary than pads? Is there a benefit of one over the other? I know I can be old-school, but ultimately I want to do what is best for her. Help, please!

I recommend tampons for girls that are active and participate in sports such as swimming and track. It is never too “early” to use a tampon once a tween or teen develops their period. Tampons can be incredibly liberating and give the freedom of movement, but instruction should be given to use the lowest absorbency necessary and to change tampons frequently throughout the day to prevent the small risk of TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome). Tampons should never be used overnight.
