At what age should kids be able to sleep overnight without a pull up or overnight diaper? Can you give me some tips for helping my 5 year old son sleep through the night without wetting the bed?

Everybody is different when it comes to this timing. Neurologically, the way that the bladder and brain are wired, some are not yet able to go without an overnight diaper until grade school, and this is very normal!  It is important to talk about sleep during every well visit with your pediatrician, to screen for other underlying triggers that may lead to nighttime bedwetting, such as sleep apnea.

For most healthy children, tapering fluids closer to bedtime does the trick. Try to wind down at least 1.5 hours before bedtime, with small sips taken closest to bedtime to just wet the mouth and keep comfortable. Try to have your child double-void, meaning use the potty twice before bedtime: once after brushing their teeth brushing, and another time right after reading a book when they are the most drowsy. If your child has been dry for a week overnight, let them go diaper-free!
