Which kind of snacks do I pack on vacation?

I know I have mentioned snacks previously. But when we are packing a preparing for travel, a significant part of our preparation includes grocery shopping for snacks. I have found that some snacks and foods consistently work well for us when we travel, and others don’t make the cut to the next vacation. So I thought I would share with you in hope that you will be inspired and feel more prepared for your next family vacation.

First of all I want to give a quick shout out to one of our newest additions to our travel line up and that is the Yeti Hopper Backpack. If you are familiar with us at this point we love our Yeti gear. Yeti products are the highest quality and lives up to its performance reputation. We love the Hopper Backpack for the obvious reason that it is wearable allowing you to carry it hands-free. The Hopper keeps our refrigerated items cold on road trips very well. This allows us to grocery shop before we get to our destination instead of stopping along the way or when we arrive.

So what do we put in the Hopper? Our family has quite a few staples that we live on and we try to include the ones that travel well.

Our typical cold item list is the following:

  • berries
  • milk
  • string cheese
  • cold brew coffee
  • coffee creamer
  • salami slices or any deli meat
  • yogurt

For our non-refrigerated or pantry foods I have tried a variety of pastry items for breakfast and that doesn’t seem to be very popular. When it comes to a baked breakfast item hot and fresh go over well so I end up buying breakfast. Something else I want to point out is buying individually wrapped snacks. Having something that is quick and easy to throw in a backpack for the day or toss to the back seat of a car during a road trip will make all the difference

Pantry items include:

  • instant oatmeal
  • individual bags of Popcorn
  • beef jerky or jerky sticks
  • trail mix
  • apples
  • apple sauce squeeze packs
  • bottled water
  • paper plates and bowls

Notice I avoid foods that require preparation.

You can make instant oatmeal with hot water from the coffee maker in your hotel room. As much as I admire the motivation, sandwiches are not popular on vacation. I typically won’t bother with our lunch boxes either. They take up space and I like for it to feel like we have a break from packing lunches. I also don’t bring and endless supply of snacks for the day either. If we have to stop for lunch then so be it. We are on vacation after all. Pull out this list before your next trip or long weekend away to help with the overwhelming packing and hopefully you can avoid a few less hangry moments.
