Family Valentine’s Day movies might seem hard to find , but there are actually many that you and your kids can enjoy together!

Kids can have a lot of fun with this holiday, so picking family Valentine’s Day movies on the lead up to the holiday is essential. For me, I love to add little gifts along with some movies for us all to fall in love with. I will usually give them a stuffed animal since mine are little yet. In terms of films, there are many of them out there that you can watch together.

Depending on the ages of your kids, there are various Valentine’s Day movies for kids that feature true love, fairy tales, romantic comedies, or just love stories. As with any of these movie lists, you need to use your discretion, but these are a great place to start.

Family Valentine’s movies for younger kids

Beauty and Beast

Both Disney versions, the animated and the live-action, are fun choices for this holiday. It features the classic story of falling in love despite appearances. While many parents probably hold a special place in their hearts for the animated version, the live-action is also worth trying for something different. Or watch both! I love the animated one, but the live-action does feature the vocal talents of Dan Stevens as the Beast, and he sings one heart-wrenching solo.

Shrek

This film is a worthy addition to a spin on a classic fairytale. Instead of the prince getting the girl and breaking the curse, the ogre does. You have a strong character in Fiona, as she can hold her own against any foe. Her strong character combined with the gruffness of Shrek is an intriguing balance. Plus, your kids are sure to love the humor.

Tangled

The theme of the power of love is showcased in no better place than Tangled. Both Rapunzel and Flynn grow and have great character arcs throughout the film. He realizes that material things don’t matter as much as he thought, and Rapunzel realizes she’s more capable than she thinks. They complement each other well and are saved by the power of love.

The Little Mermaid

Ariel is a little mermaid with big dreams who wants to be part of the human world. When she falls in love with Prince Eric at first sight, she takes steps to be with him and get something she’s always wanted. The songs are entertaining, and this movie will be nostalgic for many parents.

Lady and the Tramp

This story is about a cocker spaniel named Lady who falls in love with a scrappy stray named Tramp is a childhood favorite for many. My kids love dogs, so this is a big hit with them. The spaghetti scene is iconic and definitely one to put on your list.

Gnomeo and Juliet

This spin on Romeo and Juliet is super cute, with the leads being played by lawn ornaments. They come from different yards but find each other and fall in love, anyway. The decorations are cute, and the story gives kids a fun spin on the tragic tale but without the tragedy.

Wall-E

If you never thought robots could fall in love and yank on your heartstrings, Wall-E will prove you wrong. Wall-E is the only still functioning robot left on a post-apocalyptic Earth when Eve arrives to search for plant life. All Wall-E wants to do is hold her hand and have that companionship he’s been missing.

Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown

No holiday list is ever complete without some Snoopy. This installment has Charlie Brown dreaming of receiving a Valentine from anyone, so he doesn’t feel left out.

Family Valentine’s Day movies for older kids:

The Princess Bride

Although it is a kissing story, this charming tale of a grandfather coming to read his grandson a story while he’s home sick is fantastic. Even though the kid doesn’t want to hear a story from a “kissing book,” this film has it all. There’s action, adventure, revenge, and true love at the center of it between Buttercup and Westley. This is a fun one for older kids with the sword fights and the theme of love conquering everything.

High School Musical

For a teenage story with plenty of music, check out this one with many Disney kids. It’s a take on Romeo and Juliet, too, since it features love interests from different worlds and their respective groups trying to separate them. They come together anyway through the high school musical.

 A Walk to Remember

As one of Mandy Moore’s earliest and most heart-wrenching roles, this is another Romeo and Juliet take with a different tragic twist in that Jamie has leukemia. Despite her impending death, she falls in love with Landon, a troublemaker, while she’s one of the good kids.

10 Things I Hate About You

As another excellent teen film, this is a take on a different Shakespearean play—The Taming of the Shrew. Younger sister Bianca wants to date, but her father says she can’t until her ill-tempered older sister Kat does. Bianca’s suitor seeks out Patrick to woo Kat so that he can date the younger sister.

Ever After

This excellent live-action take on Cinderella features Drew Barrymore as Danielle, a girl who loves to read and falls asleep in the cinders by the fire. While her evil stepmother turns her into a servant, her tenacity motivates her to rescue one of the servants after he is sold. In doing so, she gains the attention of the prince. This Cinderella is a strong character who can do things on her own. She doesn’t need a prince to save her, but she loves him anyway.
