Seeing as Valentine’s Day is still the middle of winter where we are, any excuse to have some holiday fun is sure to be a good time. With Christmas long over, Valentine’s Day is an excellent time to have a party. Breaking apart the winter with fun activities for Valentine’s Day is something I look forward to every year.

Whether your party includes just immediate or extended family, there are many things that you can do to make it a memorable occasion. You could play fun games, do crafts, and eat V-Day-themed foods. Check out these kid-friendly things to add to your Valentine’s Day party ideas.

Activities/Crafts

Make decorations

Grab some pink and red construction paper and make paper hearts! Your kids can do this as an activity before the party to make decorations, or you can have it as an activity during the party itself for the kids. Add some glitter or stickers, depending on your aversion to them making too big of a mess, and kids can have a lot of fun decorating their own hearts.

Make special heart-shaped foods.

Bring in the love for food. You can make heart-shaped cookies or waffles. You can cut other things into hearts. By having food shaped this way, it will be a great addition to your Valentine’s Day party.

Heart-shaped pinata

You can fill a heart-shaped pinata with candy for some extra day celebration fun. You can spend time making one out of duct tape, or you can buy one. Either way, this is a fun activity for the whole family.

Make pink foods

Another way to pay tribute to the holiday during your party is to have pink foods. You could have strawberry smoothies or pink frosted cookies. Throw in some white and red foods, too, to make the entire party in Valentine’s Day colors.

Eat heart-shaped pizza

Some places make these, but you can also create your own heart-shaped pizza. This is a fun addition to your family Valentine’s Day party that people can enjoy. Pizza lends itself well to different shapes.

Make jewelry

If you get packs of pink/red/white pony beads, you can have the kids make their own jewelry. Don’t forget the string for stringing them on! I would highly suggest taping one end of the string to the table to help avoid kids spilling their jewelry before you have a chance to tie it closed.

Paintings

Grab some red, white, and pink paint and have the kids paint pictures. You can have them paint hearts or whatever they want. Painting is always a good time.

Make love bugs

There are a few ways to do this. One of them is using an empty toilet paper roll and decorating it. You could also add googly eyes and pipe cleaners. Let the kids make their bugs during the party and let their imaginations run wild.

Games

Conversation Heart Memory

Why not take things up a notch to Valentine’s Day-level fun with a classic game? You can use the conversation hearts as a memory game. You can even eat the extras!

Valentine’s Day Bingo

Whether you make your own bingo cards or order them, you can play a fun-themed game of bingo with Valentine’s Day-specific spaces. Kids can have a lot of fun with this. You could even cut out small hearts to use as markers.

Heart puzzles

You can take cardstock, cut out hearts, and then cut them into more pieces to create puzzles. You could turn this craft into an activity by seeing who can complete the puzzle the fastest or in the shortest amount of time.

When you have a Valentine’s Day party, there are many things you can do. From the food to the decorations to the activities, you can create a lot of fun with this holiday theme. Be sure to ask your kids if they have any ideas to add to the party. They may think of some things you haven’t!
