Some of the best times you can have with your family are when you’re making each other laugh. These are the times that stick in our brains and that we look back on fondly. If you plan it right, you can use April Fools’ Day to help facilitate a day or two of silliness.

Pranks can get out of hand, but if you plan family-friendly options, you can all have a great time without upsetting anyone. The goal is really to have fun, even for the person being pranked. With this in mind, check out these little tricks you can pull on your family this weekend, from your partner to your kids.

Whoopee Cushion

You only need one of these and can use it repeatedly. Kids find the noise hilarious, and your partner might too. Sneak it under a cushion, and you can have the whole room laughing. It can be a great way to break up any tension.

Balloon Pillow

When your child or partner goes to lie down for bed, they may be super confused. Blow up some balloons and fill the pillowcase with them. The trick here is to watch the size and arrangement to make it convincing. You want to keep the trick secret until they lay down.

The Food is Alive

No one wants their food staring at them. Put some googly eyes all over the stuff in the fridge. This way, when your child opens it, they’ll get a silly surprise. You could also do this with different things around the house.

Ducks Everywhere

Grab some rubber ducks and hide them around the house. Your kids will have a lot of fun searching for them and seeing if they can find them all. You may discover ducks months later, reigniting the laughter if they don’t find them all.

Picture Switch or Flip

If you have family pictures around your house, you can do some funny things with them come April Fools’ Day. Grab some famous people and replace your family photos with them. You could also flip all the pictures upside down and see how long your family takes to notice. Will they make it all day without noticing?

Bubble Wrap on the Floor

This prank is great for setting up the night before. Take some bubble wrap and place it under a rug. It will startle your family when they step on it and are still half asleep.

Toothpaste Oreos

This one is a bit cruel, but can be funny if you still have some regular Oreos left as an apology. You can scrape out the frosting from the cookie and replace it with toothpaste, so when the victim bites, they’ll get an unpleasant surprise.

Frozen Cereal

Unless you’re pulling this prank, you’ll want to prepare cereal the night before. Place the cereal and milk in the bowl and set it in the freezer overnight. Your kids will be baffled when they go to eat their breakfast.

Fake Bugs or Mice

Fake insects and mice are classic for prank-pulling. Set some bugs or a fake mouse somewhere in the house for an unsuspecting family member to discover. After they shriek, they’ll probably start laughing in relief when they realize it isn’t real.

Empty a Drawer

Pick a drawer in your house and empty it. This could be a clothing drawer or a silverware drawer. When people go to find something, they’ll be surprised at what’s missing when they can’t get dressed or make breakfast.

Switch Clothes

In a variation, take one drawer from two different family members and switch all the clothes. When they get dressed, they may be confused when nothing fits.

Date Switcheroo

Use your kids’ morning grogginess to your advantage for this trick. Convince them that they need to get ready for school. This one works well if April Fools’ Day is over the weekend. Get them all ready and then reveal that it’s the weekend. They may even appreciate it more, and you can then plan a fun day.

While you may want to avoid pulling pranks on each other constantly, April Fools’ Day is an excellent opportunity to play some family-friendly tricks on your kids. You can make each other laugh, and it can add some different kinds of fun to your weekend.
