It’s that time of year Fall, Autumn, Pumpkin Spice Latte, Spooky Season.

We welcome the change in wardrobe, cooler temperatures, all things pumpkin, and opportunities to travel.

Being a native Floridian I always love the idea of Fall but, for us it’s truly an extended summer. Even though we try at pumpkin patches and hayrides it’s really far too hot to enjoy. If we want to experience what “real” Fall is like, we have to travel and no one has to twist my arm to visit these destinations.

Asheville, North Carolina

It’s no surprise Asheville is dubbed “The Land of The Sky” with some of the most incredible views of the French Broad River and the Blue Ridge Mountains as you ride the Blue Ridge Parkway towards the city. Located in Western North Carolina, Asheville is known for its world class fall foliage, which starts in September. If you are a foodie or a beer lover Asheville has your name on it with dozens of incredible restaurants to dine at and breweries to enjoy while you take in the views. Home to the Vanderbilt family, The Biltmore Estate is a must-see destination for a tour of the home, stop at the creamery for delicious ice cream, and then finish the day with a wine tasting. I always leave Asheville with a full belly.

Washington, Connecticut

We are going to stay on the east coast and travel north to my next destination Washington, CT. We might even find ourselves at the Mayflower Inn and Spa to start the day having breakfast. The main activity of the day is a fall “must-do” apple picking. Get your boots on and grab your favorite plaid scarf. After your hayride through the apple orchards there will be warm apple cider and cider donuts waiting for you once you return. The fun isn’t over though because you will be taking home all of those delicious apples and bake an apple pie. I don’t know about you but, now I’m hungry.

Hopefully the apple pie and cider donuts gave us enough fuel to make it to our third stop on our fall tour.

Aspen, Colorado

Aspen is the “perfect older sister” of the three cities. Aspen is a wonderful destination to visit all year round. But, the trees that give Aspen its name have the most gorgeous colored leaves. Before you get lost shopping in town you must visit Maroon Bells for the most absolutely breathing views of Fall in all her glory. I am convinced Maroon Bells in the fall is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. For more beautiful views, you can drive Independence Pass to the Continental Divide. The road isn’t for the faint of heart but, it is worth it.

I can’t rank these destinations and say which one is “best” or my “favorite”. My best suggestion is to take a week and visit all three to decide for yourself.
