Organizing is so much more than cleaning.
Organizing is a way of life, and it is also an art. The National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) reports that on average we spend one year of our lives looking for lost items. They also say that 80% of the items we keep are never used.
I know I have written in the past about my love for organization, and my incredible experience with Neat Method, Fort Lauderdale.
The NEAT Method solved so many of my organizational needs!
I received a ton of questions and comments about my organization journey, and so I asked Kris White, owner of Fort Lauderdale Neat Method to sit down with me and break down the organizational process and what it does for clients. For me, it transformed my systems and processes, and created more time for other things in my life! Read my interview with Kris, below.
Lizzie: How did you get into organizing?
Kris: My dad raised me and my sister and he is a bit of a hoarder, and we always had trouble living that way, so we are the opposite. I got into organizing professionally because I was a paralegal for 22 years and when my daughter left for college, I wanted to get into something I could feel good doing or smile at during the day.
Lizzie: What is your favorite part about organizing?
Kris: We come in and help on so many different levels. Hoarders are the harder projects, but for me they are so rewarding. You are trying to help someone deal with personal issues. Sometimes it is family keepsakes that trigger a memory but declutters make them feel so much better. We are getting rid of the old and making space for the new and if new means lighter and less, then that’s great.
Lizzie: What will people gain by using your service?
Kris: The majority of what we do is help people restructure their lives so they do have more time in their day-to-day life. There is less time looking for things, overbuying things, not using things that you have. If you are organized, you are really just making time for every other part of your life.
Lizzie: What type of projects do you take on the most?
Kris: Surprisingly, my business is 75% moving jobs rather than space organization projects. But, for organization projects kitchens, pantries, and closets are the most popular. This year, garages have been a game changer.
Lizzie: Talk me through your process.
Kris: Initially when we come in and are just doing a space organization project, they are pulling out everything on day 1, putting it into a category, and then coming back to ask you about the categories. Then they will ask you how much you use each of the items to edit down. Then they place the items and call you to come back so they can show you where things would be placed. Next, they will show you links to products they would like to use to keep your things organized. Last, they shop and install the next day and add labels.

… and after
Lizzie: What are ways people can save money through this process?
Kris: Schedule the consultation, let me walk through the spaces with you. Let’s talk about how the space is functioning and what your goals are and then we can talk about how to maximize time and money. Having the right product and accessibility to those categories is key on how you are going to use them.
Lizzie: Why is Neat Method the best?
Kris: Our methods are put in place to be time efficient. They even structure trainings for us to time ourselves to problem solve quickly on the job. Our product line is still going and it is also really beautiful, and they are trying to be more environmentally friendly.
Lizzie: How should people contact you if they are interested in scheduling a consultation?
Kris: You can always call me at 954-415-4776 and the email is [email protected]
You can always look at the website and see. You can see all the different markets there and fill out a form online to be contacted.
