I’ve been really short-tempered lately, and sometimes I just want to stay in bed. What could be going on with me?
What a courageous woman you are to share this. I admire your honesty and your instincts that something is amiss.
It sounds like you may be experiencing some postpartum depression – also called postpartum mood disorder. We don’t usually associate a short temper with depression but in fact it can be a symptom. The same is true for the feeling of not wanting to get out of bed and face the day.
Please contact your healthcare provider and tell them how you are feeling. Also, depending on where you live, there may be other resources available to you like support groups and therapists who specialize in working with women after they’ve had their babies. Your physician may know, or you can find local resources through Postpartum Support International, an organization that promotes awareness, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing – http://www.postpartum.net.
Again, well done you for taking the first steps to taking care of yourself. You matter, too!!
