This summer for our big “summer vacation” we had so many ideas about what we wanted to do and where we wanted to go.

Unfortunately, as life would have it none of them panned out the way we had hoped. So we did something we swore we would never do and broke the #1 Rule as Floridians: We visited Walt Disney World in the summer. Not surprising that it was very hot but, we did have so much fun spending the week at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground.

The Campgrounds of Fort Wilderness is a little slice of heaven.

They are peaceful, beautiful, and so much fun. We have had so many memorable stays in the campgrounds over the years as a family. We looked forward to this trip to Walt Disney World because it was our longest stay ever for an entire week.

The 750-acre camp ground has a variety of accommodates from tent camp sites, RV sites, and cabins which are essentially a converted double wide trailer. For this stay, we stayed in the cabins which include a full kitchen, outdoor grill, 1 bathroom, a queen bed, bunk beds, and a pull out sofa. The cabins are so well themed creating a cozy and rustic atmosphere that you would hope to find in any wilderness destination.

Besides the cozy accommodations the campgrounds are so full of activity.

There are 2 pools, 2 playgrounds, guided fishing tours, horse trails, and nature trails. Fort Wilderness is also home to the very special Tri Circle D Ranch which is where the beautiful Clydesdale horses that trot down Main Street USA spend their off time. The ranch is a great place to get up close with these beautiful horses and even takes your little ones for a pony ride.

Since the resort is so large, walking from your campsite or cabin to get to park transportation is not really an option. Busses run throughout the resort and pick up guests at multiple bus stops. Otherwise, the other method of transportation is riding an electric golf cart around the resort. This alone was easily a high light of our week. We decorated our golf cart with festive red, white, and blue lights and a USA banner. Many other guests do the same and go as far as customizing their personal golf carts. It really adds to the charm of the campgrounds.

There are also so many activities for families to participate in such as nightly campfires songs, making s’mores, archery, horse and carriage rides, gem mining, and scavenger hunts.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to participate in all of them but, we will be back in a few months, and I fully intend on checking out all of these activities more.

One of the best features about the campgrounds is the proximity to Magic Kingdom which means you are only a short boat ride to the park. At night, you don’t have to leave the campground to watch Enchantment, the fire work shows at Magic Kingdom. Then if you stick around the beach you can also watch the nightly Water Pageant that only guests staying the Magic Kingdom resort area, get to see.

Our week at Fort Wilderness was nothing short of magical.

I know we made memories and came home with fun stories to share with our friends and family. I will have an update in a few months after our first camping trip as a family and share more about this amazing resort.
