Along with all new baby gear you will need for your new baby, its also important to have your postpartum plan ready.
What’s in a postpartum plan?
This is where you’ll want important phone numbers and resources listed, so they’re easily accessible when you need them in a pinch. These might include your pediatrician, pharmacy, ob/gyn, lactation consultant, or breastfeeding support group.
It’s also a great place to list out daily household tasks like pet care, garbage service dates, and when to water plants as well as the contact information for food and grocery delivery services.
Accepting help from others can be challenging for a new parent, yet never more important than during postpartum recovery and baby bonding time. Include a list of ways others you trust and can depend on to help, such as loading and emptying dishes, laundry, meal preparation, grocery shopping, and sibling care. You might want a separate list for tasks your partner can do. Be sure to include one that says to remind you to take time to relax for a few minutes.
Listing self-care options is an important part of a postpartum plan. Include steps you can take that others can remind you to do, such as drinking water and eating nutritious snacks, taking a sitz bath, having “me time” to shower, brushing your teeth and having a cup of tea, and taking time to walk outdoors for fresh air.
